Understanding E-Commerce & Digitial Certificates
Digital Certificates (Secure Server Certificates) deliver end-to-end transaction security so you can communicate securely with any customer using Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer (browsers). A Server Certificate protects communications over the web through the industry standard SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption technology.
For sales to grow, shoppers must feel as confident buying from a website as they do on the high street or in their offices. They have to be sure that the website is legitimate and belongs to a trustworthy business. They also need to know that their online communications and transactions are secure.
Secure Server Certificates automatically confirm that your site is legitimate and provides a website or web server with an electronic means of confirming both the identity of the website operator and ownership of the relevant domain name. It operates seamlessly, creating an encrypted link between the user's browser and the web server, which protects all the information that is sent during transactions.
Requirements
Domain Name
Secure Server Certificates can only be issued to the registered
owner of a domain name. This information will be included in the
Server ID as part of its distinguished name.
Proof of Right confirmation
Before a Secure Server Certificate can be provided, The issuing
Company eg. Verisign need to know that your organisation has the
legal right to conduct business under the name you specify in
your enrollment request. Based upon your enrollment request
details, they will check with third parties such as Dun &
Bradstreet and Experian in order to confirm your right to use the
name specified in the request.
The fastest way for this to be expedited is to provide your Dun & Bradstreet D-U-N-S number. Almost all established organisations in the UK and abroad are already identified by such a number. If you do not know your organisation's D-U-N-S number, you can find it out by ringing Dun & Bradstreet on (0161) 228 7744. If D&B has no record of your company you can, at this time, request one from D&B at no charge to your company.
